This November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and we wanted to end the last few days with an important message for members with, or immediate family members with, type 1 diabetes.
Diabetes is one of the most predominant chronic diseases in North America. Currently, 11 million Canadians live with diabetes or prediabetes; with 1 Canadian being diagnosed every 3 minutes. This disease is the nation’s leading cause for blindness, and responsible for over 70% of the country’s leg amputations.
300,000 Canadians live with type 1 diabetes. Most people are diagnosed during their youth, and for the rest of their lives they must follow a strict regimen of daily insulin injections,
monitoring blood sugar levels, and carefully regulating carbohydrate intake.
It is with this understanding that CATCA would like to bring awareness to a coverage option provided through your health care benefits coverage. Members, and immediate family members (dependents, and/or spouse), are now eligible for continuous glucose monitoring equipment, and supply coverage with a value of up to $4,000.00 annually. This coverage is provided on an exemption basis, for type 1 diabetics only. For coverage, please reach out to your benefit coordinator and inform them that you are a type 1 diabetic in need of support.
In Solidarity,
