Member Weekly Update – Edition #12

Please find the latest edition of weekly updates to the membership about ongoing Union business.

Last week, CATCA President, Doug Best, appeared in front of The House of Commons Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology to provide a statement regarding the Committee’s study on Development and Support of the Aerospace Industry. Before the hearing, CATCA issued a press release with the Member Survey results; click here to view. During the testimony, questions were asked about the Member Survey. Following the hearing, CATCA has received several media requests and continues to respond. To view the recording of the hearing, please click here.

Questions have been received regarding sick leave certificates; click here to view the B&F published March 13, 2020. A reminder that it is still in effect, Article 24.03 (b) is temporarily suspended and absences above ten casual sick days do not require a sick note/blue form. As per Article 24.03 (a) absences for a duration longer than 5 days still require a sick note/blue form.

The ATC Aviation Document Booklet (ADB) Validity Exemption has been extended. This exemption applies to holders of an ADB that were still valid as of March 12, 2020. This extension allows ADB holders to continue exercising their licence privileges until December 31, 2021, even with the ADB being expired. If your aviation document was valid on March 12, 2020, submit your application for renewal following the standard timelines. If the new booklet is not received before your booklet expires, you may continue to exercise your licence privileges with an expired ADB until December 31, 2021.

As per LOU 2019-01(4), NAV Canada advised CATCA on March 25, 2021 that they do not plan on implementing LOU 2019-01 for the summer of 2021. LOU 2019-01 refers to the summer overtime rate and time off in lieu (TOIL).  We remind the membership that since the overtime rate will not be at 2.25 the straight-time hourly rate this summer, the collective agreement applies for TOIL between June 15, 2021 and September 15, 2021.

Yesterday, CATCA released a B&F regarding Documenting Safety Occurrences. We ask CATCA members in all units across the country to engage fully and help us in this process by completing the online form should you witness any situation in which NAV Canada is making decisions that affect the safe and efficient provision of Air Traffic Control Services. Click here to access the form.

We recognize how difficult and challenging the situation is for many of our members. We encourage members to speak with one another, reach out to your RVP, and utilize EAP services to obtain additional support click here or here.
