Urgent Union Update #1
Over the last several days, CATCA has been working with NAV Canada to clarify its interpretation of the COVID-19 pandemic issues and the dissemination of information received from the Federal Government of Canada. There have been multiple iterations of communications supplied to CATCA that have been amended to further help explain to employees how NAV Canada plans on dealing with the situation through the COVID-19 daily updates. CATCA could be doing daily updates but we feel having input into the company’s communications is sufficient and avoids confusion.
Although not all situations are ideal, we continue to work towards finding solutions to the problems that we are faced with that are ever changing and affecting our workplaces. We will continue to work with NAV Canada towards finding solutions to these problems.
Today, Transport Canada gave a waiver for Aviation Medicals from March 17, 2020 until August 1, 2020. The update explains if your medical was to expire on or before June 1, 2020 it will remain valid until August 1, 2020. Please review the link provided (Transport Canada) for further details.
Our extended health care out of country medical coverage was given administrative exemptions dating back to February 1, 2020 to help those who may have contracted COVID-19. We have received information indicating the exemption may end in the coming days for those who travel after a future date. To this end, we urge members to follow the most recent recommendations by the Government of Canada Travel Advisory.
NAV Canada has launched a voluntary temperature testing campaign located in all ACC’s. This initiative may expand to other locations in the future. CATCA fully supports this undertaking as it is one more way of ensuring a continued healthy working environment for you and your coworkers. Note this is completely voluntary but we urge members to self-test.
On Behalf of the Executive Board;
Peter Duffey Doug Best
