It has become clear to CATCA’s Executive Board (EB) that the amount of work required to correct deficiencies in the current classification system is simply too much for any of the CATCA Executive. Without having a full-time person dedicated to the task, progress has been painstakingly slow.
CATCA has negotiated with NAV Canada to have a member temporarily staffed as Classification Analyst for a two-year period. It is our belief that having a person working full-time on classification will allow us to make long overdue inroads into fixing a very problem-plagued system.
After carefully considering the requirements and prerequisites for this role, the CATCA EB determined that it should be staffed by a member of the current Classification Committee. This position will report directly to CATCA’s President and will be on full-time union leave from their current position in the same way RVPs are. This will be an ATC-6 position and the work location will be the closest respective ACC for the two-year period.
The current Classification Committee members were solicited for interest in the role, and after receiving multiple applications, the CATCA EB has chosen Gordon Howe of Buttonville. Gord brings a wealth of knowledge to the position, and he has a great desire to make improvements to the system.
We congratulate Gord on his appointment and look forward to working with him over the next two years.
On behalf of the Executive Board,
Peter Duffey Doug Best
President Executive Vice President
