The results of a recent “level of service” review at Mirabel airport have led NAV Canada to change the level of service to Control Tower from Flight Service Station. Transport Canada has now approved, the change in level of service.
As a result, Mirabel will function as a Control Tower during daytime operations and as a Flight Service Station (advisory service) during overnight hours.
Plans to organize on-site training are underway, and a seniority bid will soon run to allow CATCA members to bid for this new position. Mirabel tower will be an ATC Grade 1 tower – the ATCP level is currently under review. The final ATCP level will be advertised on the seniority bid. Please note that the actual service level change date has yet to be determined.
Mirabel’s original Control Tower closed in December 2008 and converted to a Flight Service Station… a decade later, we welcome the addition of another Control Tower in Canada.

Peter Duffey Doug Best
