Mandatory Vaccinations for Federal Employees and Federally Regulated Workplaces

On Friday, August 13, 2021, the Federal government announced its intention to make vaccinations mandatory for all federal public service employees and employees in federally regulated air, rail, and marine transportation sectors across Canada as a condition for attendance in the workplace.  While the announcement suggested a timeline of end of September for the public service, the timeline for federally regulated workplaces, including NAV Canada, is currently contemplated for the end of October 2021.

The announcement brings with it many questions and opinions from CATCA members looking for answers regarding their rights with such a decision, and how it will be handled by the Company and the Union.

CATCA has a duty to respect and protect the rights of all members.  We currently have our Labour Relations and Legal personnel engaged in researching the details of this announcement, what it means for our members, and what your rights are.  However, at this time, there remains very little detail or information to examine beyond the initial announcement.

This is a very contentious issue with a sizeable number of factors requiring consideration before we can inform members accurately. While we collect and analyze the necessary information, we ask members to be patient until we can complete this process so that your Union can provide clear and appropriate information to the entire membership.

In Solidarity,

Doug Best                                                                    Scott Loder
