After the release of the last bargaining bulletin, it has become apparent that the March 27-31 bargaining dates have generated a lot of discussion amongst the membership.
We are now well into the collective bargaining process, and after five weeks at the table with NAV Canada, we have made a lot of progress. However, a number of key issues remain on the table for discussion. Your bargaining team has been working hard to bring you a collective agreement you will be happy with, and we will continue to do so. Rest assured, over the coming weeks the Contract Committee will be discussing issues via teleconferencing and email.
Both sides are now benefitting from a break at the table to consider their positions in detail, work on data and, for CATCA, ensure that every step we take in this process is the right one. Also, March break will begin shortly across the country, and many Contract Committee members are unavailable due to family commitments. Over the past six months, several elected representatives have adjusted their plans to attend the meetings which has pushed much of the leave toward the end of February and beginning of March.
Although we aim to have a collective agreement by its expiry date, it is not the main goal. The main goal is to get a settlement that is in the best interest of our membership regardless of the time required to achieve it. We are determined to deliver the best possible collective agreement to our members and we will take all the time necessary to ensure that happens.
We thank you for your patience as we work hard to deliver your next collective agreement. For more on this issue and other news, visit President Peter Duffey’s blog.
