Bargaining Bulletin No. 2: Ready to Begin Bargaining, Oct. 12-14, Ottawa

The Contract Committee has now completed the crucial phase of finalizing the issues which will be tabled when face-to-face meetings begin with NAV Canada.

Meetings began with yet another detailed review of the branch proposals, after having filtered and combined them initially in the previous round. Following this review, the full committee heard reports and recommendations from the special committees that had been struck to examine some of the major themes that emerged from across the country. Based on the reports, the committee made decisions as to which proposals to bring forward and in what form, so as to best reflect the members’ needs. Such decisions were taken not by votes, but through full discussion and debate until a consensus could be reached.

The Contract Committee is now ready to open talks with the Company, which will begin during the next round of meetings, scheduled for November 2 to 10 in Ottawa.

We take this opportunity to remind all members, especially those to whom this process may be new, that confidentiality is essential at all stages of bargaining. Until a tentative agreement is reached and presented for your approval, your information will come from these bulletins. We’re confident you will give your bargaining representatives your full understanding and support to do the job they were elected to do.

As always, if you have questions or concerns about the process, please communicate with your Regional Vice President, and stay tuned for more updates.

In solidarity,

Peter Duffey                                        Doug Best
President                                             Executive Vice President
